Joe's story

Hello everyone and welcome to my personal blog!

I'm very excited to share a few pages of my life with you and since I have been fortunate enough to have some time to create this space. I thought that sharing a few of my experiences would give me nice outlet to speak my mind and at the same time, give my life story a bit more life (excuse the pun!) and color as well.

So without further ado, let's start in a galaxy far far away.. Well, not really but it does seem that way when I reminisce about how it all started... from my birthplace Bahrain to living with my loving and dear family to studying abroad and meeting new people and experiencing lovely memories to permanently moving to the United States, getting married and now finding myself amidst all the freedom and happiness, it's been quite the journey so far and it's only getting started.

I was named Yusuf when I was born in Awali, Bahrain, a tiny island (or an island of islands as I like to remember it) on December 11, 1990. I lived with my parents and brother for 28 years (give or take a few gaps) in a nice, cute and cozy home. I was surrounded by pure love and genuine care and I couldn't think things could get any better. That was until I expanded my horizons, thought outside the bounds of my environment, trusted my instincts and feelings and thought to myself, am I truly happy here?

You may be asking why would someone who was loved by his family and friends feel that way?

Well, it's not that there's a simple answer, life is so multifaceted and unpredictable at times. But if this is my trying to explain, it was because I felt I had no self-determination; no choice over how my life was going to pan out (which was great in it's own way) but more importantly, I felt somewhat disconnected from such a connected place strangely enough. That made me feel somewhat uncertain about controlling my own destiny... until recently.

After 28 years of trying to discover myself with family and friends, 2018 was the year I permanently moved to the U.S. and found my own home with my partner, now wife, Hina Zaidi.

I developed, grew and changed ever since we've met in a class called changing views of the universe during undergrad and now, I finally feel that destiny is now in my own hands.

With that being said, I can never forget my family's contributions and effort towards my upbringing as I'll be the first to say that I'm not an easy person to live with (just ask my wife). My parents unconditionally gave me the perfect foundation, childhood, shelter and living environment for 28 years and I wouldn't be the person I am today without them so if you're reading this Mom or Dad, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your contributions, both seen and unseen, towards the person I am today have a special place in my heart. I love you both immeasureably.

Now as I continue to settle in America and follow my dreams, I will always come back here to write and reflect as the flow of my life continues to move through the waves.
